Standing Core Training

Aug 1, 2015

Since most sports are played in a standing position it makes practical sense that the Core Area of the body should be trained or rehabilitated standing as well. A standing training regime of the core ensures that the benefit of your strength and conditioning or rehabilitation will be sport specific.

The core area of the body is the pelvis which includes the abdominal obliques, rectus abdominus and transverse abdominus on the anterior or front side. On the rear or posterior side of the pelvis the core includes the lumbar paraspinals, multifidi, and quadratus lumborum. Also included in the core are the segmental muscles between the lumbar vertebrae. Those include the rotator and transversaris muscles between each vertebrae. All of these muscles combined working in synergy comprise the core area of the body.

One of the best ways to show how significant the pelvic area is for baseball, golf and tennis is demonstrated by blocking the pelvis from rotating during the swing phase. If the pelvis is blocked during the swinging motion all movement from the core is diminished and the motion of swinging the bat, raquet or club only takes place in the arms which reduces power at least by 50%.

In using the AB & Back Core Trainer this exact motion of pelvic and lumbar rotation takes place simulating all sport movements and an athlete will gain strength benefits for his or her particular sport.

The AB & Back Core Trainer is also a rehab device. A research study of 40 patients showed great results for relieving lower back pain and restoring freedom of motion in the lumbar spine and hips. In conducting the study the core trainer was tested and found safe to use for those suffering from chronic lower back pain.

The AB & Back Core Trainer has also been found to be effective for hip, knee and ankle dysfunctions and provides a physical therapist with a new tool for restoring lower extremity motion. For a strength coach, physical therapist, athletic trainer and or personal trainer the AB & Back Core Trainer can be used as an effective strengthening device for isolating hip, knee and ankle weaknesses.
